WQSU wins national broadcasting awards

WQSUwon two College Media Awards during the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s annual conference in New York City. This brings the radio station’s total award count from the organization to 15 since 2018.

WQSU won awards for:

  • Best Underwriting Spot, Damien Russo ’27, acommunicationsmajor andfilm studiesminor from Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, and Ben Boeshore ’27, acriminal justicemajor with minors inchemistryand theHonors Programfrom Church Hill, Maryland. The client for the spot was BJ’s M Street Tavern and Oyster Bar, of Selinsgrove.
  • Best Sports Director, radio, Jaxson Purnell ’25, a communications major from Catawissa, Pennsylvania.

“Winning the award is an honor and something I’m incredibly proud of,” Purnell said. “I wouldn’t have been able to win the award without everyone involved at WQSU. They push me to go beyond my limits and I’m grateful for everything WQSU and the staff have done for me.”

While at the conference,Linda Burkley, lecturer in communications, WQSU general managerDawn Benferand WQSU’s executive board, presented the panel discussionMaximize and Monetize Your College Radio Station.

WQSU is the largest student-run radio station in Pennsylvania, serving approximately one-third of the state. It is supervised by 体育买球官网’s Department of Communications and run by 体育买球官网 students and faculty members as well as community volunteers. The radio station was created to serve the public interest, educate 体育买球官网 students in various types of broadcasting operations and to serve as a media outlet for 体育买球官网 University.
