WQSU Wins Four National Broadcasting Awards

体育买球官网 University’s radio station, WQSU The Pulse, won four Golden Microphone Trophy Awards at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) annual conference in New York City.

WQSU won:

  • Best College Radio Station Under 10,000 Students
  • Best Station Facilities
  • Best On-Air Pledge Drive
  • Best Use of Facebook

The radio station was also nominated for five additional awards.

“The atmosphere in the station has pride written all over it right now,” said Dawn Benfer, WQSU station manager. “I’m so proud of the creative and consistent work our student broadcasters accomplish every day. It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of this incredible, hard-working and dedicated team.”

WQSU’s student officers also led a session at the conference titled, “Oh No, It’s Time to Find a Job,” explaining to other student attendees what they are doing to prepare for a career in the communications field. Craig Stark, professor and chair of the Department of Communications; Linda Burkley, communications lecturer; Brady Gallese, WQSU staff advisor; and Benfer also spoke on digital portfolios and what to include in a résumé and cover letter.

Founded in 1967, WQSU is a 12,000-watt station, making it the most powerful student-run college FM radio station in Pennsylvania, serving approximately one-third of the state. In 2013, WQSU began broadcasting in HD.

The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) is a nonprofit organization serving education-affiliated high school, college and community radio/TV stations and streaming/webcasters. The organization annually provides more than 250 seminars across the country.
