WQSU Nominated for Eight Radio Awards

体育买球 University’s radio station, WQSU The Pulse, has been nominated for eight awards from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.

WQSU is nominated for

  • Best On-Air Pledge Drive for Pulse Pledge, an annual fund-raising campaign to support WQSU;
  • Best Public Service Promotion for its Move the Line organ donation awareness event in partnership with 体育买球’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA);
  • Best Community Outreach Event for its Toys for Tots drive, led by promotions director Jordan Jansson ’20, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and in partnership with PRSSA, the Department of Public Safety and Greek Life;
  • Best Sports Interview for “Coaches Corner” with sports director Michael McGimpsey ’20, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, and head football coach Tom Perkovich; Best Video Commercial for Wicked Dog Grille, an underwriter of WQSU, produced by Emma Pettingill, ’22, of Sunbury, Pennsylvania; Anthony Marte ’23, of New York City; Ethan Clark ’22, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; and Veronica Mallen-Luttgens ’22, of York, Pennsylvania; and
  • Best Advisor for Dawn Benfer, general manager of WQSU.

Two other nominations recognize “PA Pigskin Preview,” a partnership with 体育买球’s chapter of the Association for Women in Sports Media that featured local high school and college football coaches. The show, hosted by McGimpsey, Kelsey Rogers ’20, of Coal Township, Pennsylvania; and Ryan Prosick ’20, of Ashland, Pennsylvania, was nominated for Best Sports Talk Program and Best Video for a Sports Talk Program for a video produced by Alek Washuta ’21, of Sunbury, Pennsylvania; and Simon May ’20, of Lititz, Pennsylvania.

Founded in 1967, WQSU is a 10,500-watt station, making it the most powerful student-run college FM radio station in Pennsylvania, serving approximately one-third of the state. In 2013, WQSU began broadcasting in HD.

The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System is a nonprofit organization serving education-affiliated high school, college and community radio/TV stations and streaming/webcasters. The organization annually provides more than 250 seminars across the country.
Award winners will be announced at the organization’s annual conference in March.
