Internships Help Grad Land Accounting Job

Jared Kozich ’19 credits his two internships with helping him secure a job offer at an accounting firm outside Washington, D.C., before his graduation.

As a sophomore, Kozich—who majored in accounting, had two jobs and was also a varsity football player—worked as an audit intern for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, where he learned sales and used his tax auditing skills.

A second internship during his junior year followed at Maher Duessel, an accounting firm in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. There, he helped audit government and non-profit entities.

“The culmination of both internships along with my school work helped me obtain a full-time position after graduation,” Kozich says.

Kozich now works for Cotton & Company LLP, an accounting firm specializing in working with federal government clients, in Alexandria, Virginia. He is a staff member for the litigation support section of the firm and will be using forensic accounting techniques to help prepare senior level management to testify in federal court cases.

Passing the CPA exam is one of Kozich’s first goals. After completing that exam, he is planning to take another to become a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and then will look to continue advancing within the firm.

“I believe the Sigmund Weis School of Business and its professors do an amazing job getting their students ready for the workforce,” Kozich says.
