Trip Abroad Inspires New Research Focus

A semester spent in Italy inspired Tiffani Lopez ’18 to develop a new focus for her history studies back at 体育买球.

“I took a class called Anthropology of Europe, which taught me about how immigration over time has effected Italy specifically, but also Europe as a whole,” she says.

When she began her senior history research at 体育买球, she was inspired by that class on immigration patterns to take a closer look at the effects of Mexican immigration on the U.S. and, more specifically, the Mexican Labor Agreement.

Her thesis, titled 22 Years of Forgotten Experiences: The Mexican Labor Agreement, helped shed light on the lives of migrant workers who suffered injustices due to racism and greed.

“Throughout this process, I tried to provide a platform for individuals who often are unheard of in our history classes and in general,” Lopez says.

Lopez has accepted a job at the Pennsylvania College Advising Corps in Philadelphia. One day, she hopes to work at a natural history museum, making exhibits more interactive for children.

“I think it’s important to know past experiences and how they developed over time in an effort to better them in the present and for the future,” says Lopez.
