Pulitzer Prize-Winning Play Comes to 体育买球官网

体育买球官网 University’s Department of Theatre will present the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Topdog/Underdog at 7:30 p.m. March 24 and 25 in Isaacs Auditorium in Seibert Hall.

This event is free and open to the public.

Topdog/Underdog is a dark comedy by playwright Suzan-Lori Parks. Somber yet funny, the play focuses on two brothers, Lincoln and Booth, played by senior Marquise Richards and junior Kemah Armes, respectively, and their struggles with women, poverty, gambling and racism. Abandoned by their parents at a young age, the brothers, now in their thirties, rely on each other for support. However, with each brother having opposing values, the climax of the story begins to take shape.

Topdog/Underdog is a relevant show in which audience members get to experience the realities of two African-American brothers living in close proximity,” said Richards, co-star and director of the play. “The play is an honest look on how these two brothers deal with their personal traumas. It can hopefully help the audience reach a level of empathy for them.”

The play premiered in 2001 in New York City. Its subsequent Pulitzer made Parks the first African-American woman to win the prestigious award.

Seating to this performance is limited. For more performance information, call the Box Office in the Degenstein Campus Center at 570-372-ARTS (2787). The Box Office is open Monday through Friday, between noon and 5 p.m. while university classes are in session.
