Memory is more than simply a storage system; it is a dynamic process that allows the brain to encode and retrieve information, but sometimes there are problems.

Thisfour-weekcoursepresented by Jim Briggs, professor of psychology,will explore how memory works and why it sometimes fails.Participantswill examine key models of memory, including encoding,storageand retrieval processes, andwill analyzethe distinctions between sensory, short-termand long-term memory systems.The coursewill also investigate the malleability of memory, its vulnerability todisruptionand the major sources of forgetting.

The course will be held online each Tuesday in February, beginning Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.

About Jim Briggs

Briggs joined the faculty at 体育买球官网 University in 2011. His scholarly interests in the environmental and neurobiological underpinnings of memory formation, memory retention and amnesia have resulted in several publications, including eight with undergraduate student co-authors.In 2024, he was recognized with theJohn C. Horn Award for Distinguished Scholarship and Creative Activity.
